Be not the Canvas

If you are not careful, people will design you the way they see fit.

“Be not the canvas, for the artist holds the beauty.”

"Many people think the picture is where the beauty lies, but the canvas is only the final manifestation of the artist’s thoughts. The painting was always there in the artist’s mind. He or she just puts it on canvas for everyone to see. Most of us go through life being canvases. We let other people be the artists and let them paint and sculpt us any way they wish. We want to please people so much that we become what other people want us to be. The canvas is blank or neutral until the artist gives it color or direction. Most of us are neutral until someone or something in society gives us direction. Don’t be a canvas (which has become the American way). Be an artist. Follow your own dreams and desires. Don’t let anyone tell you what you should be doing or what you should think is important. Be the artist and manifest your own thoughts. Don’t become a manifestation of someone else’s thoughts."
