Worrying Holds You Back!

Worry is a road that leads nowhere, but goes on forever.
Worry is a road that leads nowhere, but goes on forever.

Worrying is something we all experience. When we have an important exam, we worry. When we can't pay our bills, we worry. Even if we're wealthy, we worry about losing our money. We worry about others' opinions of us, whether we know them or not. We even worry about death.

Most of us worry daily about someone or something, and some of us worry constantly about everything. Whether you worry a little or a lot, I'm here to tell you that worrying isn't the solution. In fact, worrying is pointless. The reason is that worrying about a problem or situation doesn't solve it. To worry, you must use one (or both) of the abilities that define us as humans.

To worry, you need to use your memory (to worry about the past) or your imagination (to worry about the future). This is why worrying is futile. First, the past can never return. Second, the future has countless possible outcomes beyond your imagined version. Third, to worry, you can't focus on reality, which is the present moment.

Consider all the times you've worried. My question is, how often did worrying solve your problem? I can't answer for you, but I can answer for myself. In my life, worrying has never solved a problem. Moreover, most of the time (around 99%), the outcome of what I worried about never happened or was vastly different from what I imagined.

Worrying is a wasteful way to use your valuable gifts of memory and imagination. I'm not saying you shouldn't think about your issues and problems. That's necessary for learning and growth. Ancient civilizations understood that humans were meant to face and overcome problems. They realized that conquering difficulties is essential for advancement in life.

You must recognize the significant difference between problem-solving and problem-worrying.

To live freely, you must learn to shed the chains of worrying.
